What is Dashboard?
Dashboard is one of the coolest new features in Apple's soon to be released "Tiger" operating system. Dashboard is a new way for Mac users to get fast access to information and functionality they use frequently. Dashboard is comprised of mini-applications, called widgets. When you press F-12 on your keyboard the widgets fly on your screen in an Exposé like fashion displaying your "Dashboard". Press F-12 again and the widgets fly off your screen and disappear.
When will Dashboard be released?
Dashboard will be released with Apple's next operating system, "Tiger". It is scheduled for release sometime during the first half of 2005.

has been around for about many years. Apple's Dashboard works very similar to

and they both have mini-applications that are called widgets. Take a look at Konfabulator if you want to see the way widget's work. Apple has eligently integrated these widget's into it's "Tiger" operating system using Exposé to easily display them.
